Welcome to Greenstreams!
Greenstreams is a project dedicated to making the most of the fantastic rivers in the Huddersfield area for the benefit of both people and wildlife.
Over the years we have worked to create access to many riverside green spaces so that the value of these ‘hidden gems’ may be appreciated by all. We work on a not-for-profit basis by engaging the support of local businesses, communities and interest groups as well as individual volunteers. Browse our website to find out more about what we do and how you can get involved.
Foreword from Barry Sheerman MP
"Greenstreams is a wonderfully successful project. We have developed a great partnership with those who care about our rivers and canals. We have engaged local expert groups, residents, businesses and individuals who comprise a dedicated and professional team. We have arranged numerous clean-up programmes involving a wide range of volunteers to establish the River Colne as a community asset.
Many local residents have donated their time clearing the riverbanks of invasive weeds and rubbish. As well as protecting wildlife within the River Colne, the Greenstreams Project has also helped to provide an important educational resource for local schools and colleges, running workshops about the river and its history.
We believe that once maintained to a high standard, the River Colne and its tributaries can become an integral recreational, cultural and environmental resource for the surrounding community. We are keen that all those wishing to be involved with the project, locally, regionally or nationally should contact us for details of how best to get involved. Thank you for taking the time to look at our site”.
